Carrie D. Miller
In a former life, I was an executive in the software industry. My career in the technology world included software product management, website design, training, and technical writing just to name a few. At the age of 45, I decided to chuck it all to become an author which had been a life-long dream.
One year later, I published my first novel, The White Raven. I cried like a baby when I watched it download onto my Kindle. While I continued to write, I also wanted to do something else that was just as creative. I’m a huge animal lover and have always loved to bake, so I decided to tinker with some dog and cat treat recipes.
In 2017, I started a pet treat business, Broomstick Pet Treats LLC. After a few years, I’m happy (and humbled) to say it grew into quite a successful website and Etsy shop. My niche was that I focused on using minimal ingredients to achieve maximum taste and only natural ingredients like turmeric, beet powder, activated charcoal, etc., to color the treats. Over the years, I earned a wonderful client base and following on Instagram and Facebook.
But the post-COVID world introduced ever-increasing costs for literally everything. So much so that I could no longer sustain growth without increasing the price of my treats, DIY mixes, and essential oil pet care products to a level that I was still comfortable with. Adding that to my chronic neck pain, I regretfully closed my pet treat business in September 2022.
